Minister Dingwall encouraging the participants to set the course for the future.
Federal Response
Minister Dingwall concluded, "I said last night that our task is not to fix the blame for the past
but to set the course for the future......Many of you could have come here today and extolled on
all the difficulties that Cape Breton has incurred over the last 50-75 years, but you chose not to.
Each of you came freely, gave freely of your time, showed leadership. You said this is the
problem, and more importantly, this is the opportunity and this is the way we are going to get
there...... I think you people should feel very, very proud of the accomplishments that you have
made here today. I know, as a Cape Bretoner, I feel very proud of the accomplishments that we
have made."
The day and a half conference ended with the signing of a four-year Multi-Partite Agreement
between the stakeholders (Federal/Provincial/Municipal Governments and the University College
of Cape Breton) and the Cape Breton County Economic Development Authority.
